Conflict is inevitable. In my opinion, there is always conflict in every situation involving more than one individual, simply because none thinks alike. Cultures, perspectives, religions define and differentiate each of us from others. Hence, classes are bound to happen.
I personally faced many conflicts, especially during my high school. I attended CCAs, most of them with my class. Chinese New Year Festival is a part of my school tradition. It is an opportunity to eat, play and gossip. We had to set up a booth for our class to sell sweets, drinks and provide traditional games. To prepare, we devised a plan one month before that. During our meeting, we had a lot of clashes about the shape of our booth. Three designs came out and we nearly had quarrels sometimes despite the presence of our teacher. Some still disapprove of the selected design. Hence when we was discussing about tasks assignment, they didn’t happily and actively contribute. Many times our teacher had to use his authority to force individuals undertake some parts. That was obviously unpleasant.
But the day we set up the booth was definitely the happiest moment of our project. We started realizing limits of our plan as we kept doing and doing. Once again, we had several clashes. The initial design was unable to stand firm. So we invented a totally new shape. But it guzzled all of our pieces of wood. Because we didn’t have any separate piece left to hang our class flag, we put it on the highest horizontal stake.
That experience definitely gave me some first vague concepts about conflicts within a group. There were conflicts because all wanted to contribute. That’s why we can say conflicts have both positive and negative implications.

Hi Thai Bao,
I completely agree with you that conflict is inevitable and it is impossible to please everyone all the time. I suggest all of you could have made a hybrid of the designs you suggested.
Perhaps, your other classmates were initially against the idea because they might have predicted that it might not have been stable. So, you could have tried to have a stable base and the top could carry perhaps your design.
In this kind of scenarios, it is always best that you discuss in detail, weigh the pros and cons of each possible idea and WRITE them down. It really helps to see all sides of the issue, rather than blindly insisting on a single idea.
Of course, there are some people who just want to make things difficult and they choose to disagree whatever others say. In that case, I guess all you can do is to try to give him some other task.
For example, you could perhaps make that kind of person in-charge of choosing the types of games and sweets you would like to put in the stall. This would make the opposite person happy that he is given an important role and it would also enable the rest of you to concentrate on your design.

Gulabi
